The Federal Long Term Care Insurance Program

This is the congressionally authorized long term care insurance program for current and retired Federal government employees and their families. The Federal Long Term Care Insurance Program is group insurance plan.

The Federal government clearly knows how important it is to help protect its employees against the high costs of long term care.

Please read our page on group insurance plans. If you are a federal employee with health concerns, this group may suit you, particularly because, under the current plans (year 2008) there is an Unlimited Lifetime benefit option.

If you enjoy general good health, then a custom designed individual plan may be much better for you.

The U.S. Office of Personnel Management (OPM) is currently contracted with two top insurance companies, John Hancock Life Insurance Company and Metropolitan Life Insurance Company. According to the Federal givernment's website, their contract ends on April 30th, 2009.

OPM is choosing other LTCi carrier(s) now. They warn that under the next contract, benefits and/or premiums may change. For assistance in deciding between individual or group coverage, contact your LTC Insurance Buyer's Advocate
